Quality Sleep

Sleep your way into wellbeing

The simplest action you can do to commit to your health goals is to prioritize sleep. Yet, it’s the most underestimated weapon in the arsenal to help the body run in optimum condition. Most lifestyles out there neglect the fact that sleep is an important part of the day and just think of it as wasted productive hours.

If you don’t have a set bedtime or look forward to sleep, if you don’t get to bed until your whole to-do-list is done and just don’t think too much of sleep in regard to health then keep reading because this shift suggestion may provide perspective and help your balance your life.

Why Sleep is Important?

Just stating the benefits falls flat to the role of sleep in your wellbeing. First let me share an analogy to grasp the big picture.

Imagine the busiest room in your house. The place everybody visits numerous times during the day. For this exercise I’ll use the kitchen.

Now see yourself cooking in it and getting the stove dirty. Using many pans and cookware leaving a mountain of dishes. Taking food in and out of the fridge and as consequence lowering inventory. Seeking for snacks in the pantry making a mess of boxes and wrappers everywhere. Walking all over the place, leaving dust and debris behind. Touching every drawer and cabinet, did you clean your hands before? Just think of every action that takes place there.

Now, imagine this process ongoing for four days without cleaning or tidying up. It’s quite a dreadful scenario which you don’t want to be responsible for cleaning on the fifth day.

The chaos left behind in your imagined kitchen can be like the havoc that your body MUST deal with after consecutive sleepless nights.

Sleeping is the body’s natural way of repairing, recalibrating, and maintaining top conditions. If you do not sleep well, you are depriving yourself of the ‘night shift’ that cleans up the stress, toxins, and traces of the daily tasks forced upon the body during the day. If proper quality sleep does not take place, you are running your body on fumes.

Is like expecting a Porsche to run smoothly on poor-quality gas through a hole filled highway. Is not running on the optimum scenario and its’s about to break down soon enough.

Now that you have the big picture check out a list of benefits in this video. There are my favorite outcomes for prioritizing quality sleep.

How we sabotage Quality Sleep?

Is only natural to sabotage sleep if we live among a culture that stands behind the idea that “We’ll sleep when we are dead”.

Socially we are asked to be highly productive and successful at work, run a tight household, get our kids in many extracurricular activities, be social and make time for friends, be fitness forward for at least an hour, experience every little trend out there, be connected 24/7, be up to date with every single happening in the world, be here, be there, be up and down. #FOMO in a 12 to 16-hours period. And I forgot to include make time to eat, cook, clean, and keep our sanity.

It’s quite easy to see why people don’t prioritize sleep on a daily basis. Can they afford to with all those socially accepted demands?

The Sad Reality

But the problem is that only making time for sleep over the weekend (if that if even possible) will not be enough for the kind of maintenance & repair the body has to do to clean up after a strenuous week. The natural healing process of the body is sabotaged by overstressing the system and underestimating its maintenance.

If you want to experience quality sleep in the 21st century you must be a proactive defender of your sleeping schedules to assure proper maintenance is taken care of. That’s is not the reality for many.

If you wish to know to what extent you are a Quality Sleep Defender, or a Sleep Sabotage Agent take this Sleep Quiz. Is a simple evaluation meant to give you reference point of your sleep intake.

From my journey to yours

Exhaustion is common but not normal!

At times it seems like you barely have energy to just wake up, go to work, and come back home. It’s common to feel tired or even exhausted for just living. BUT is not normal, you don’t have to just accept it. It’s important to rethink the rhythm in which we force our body to live.

I know firsthand the results of not prioritizing sleep and running on overdrive. I’m 31 with Hashimoto & Hypothyroidism. The sad part is I created this reality for myself because of neglect.

But my future started to improve the day I started to prioritize my health over everything, the day I started to prioritize sleep over a busy schedule. Now with a properly working maintenance service, a.k.a. quality sleep, my body shows up to my daily demands fully charged and ready.

You can experience that too, all you need to do is commit to the simplest action to support your health goals, prioritize sleep.

Until Next One!
