Wellbeing

Key aspect to support any Health Goal

A new horizon or new beginning fuels the mind's desires to get off on the right foot, a Tabula Rasa of some sort. The New Year inspires many to fix their lifestyle, hoping to get different & better outcomes than before. Diets, gym memberships, agendas, among others, become popular tools and Go-To. Unfortunately for many people, these approaches circle back to the same starting point. Why is that? It could be for various reasons. This blog post will focus on one that is ignored by many.

When people seek transformations, the goals typically focus on correcting wrongdoings instead of supporting their WELLBEING.

It leads nowhere. Because what is accomplished doesn't meet innermost desires. It's not truly fulfilling.

How about instead of rooting approaching transformation from thoughts like "I need to do more exercise, I didn't eat healthy enough." embrace it from desires like "I want to enjoy living" or "It makes me feel good to do this activity".

Now, don't get cynical or pessimistic right away. That's the problem. A healthy lifestyle is associated with restrictions, gimmicks, trends but never with nurturing the human's wellbeing. This blog hopes to bridge the gap and inspire a different vibe for this new year's transformation goals.

Why focus on my Wellbeing?

Wellbeing is the state of being happy, healthy & prosperous. It's almost a mindset that can resonate with everyone. Never the less it's highly individual! It's not textbook perfect for all, as being happy, healthy & prosperous may look & feel different to all.

For example:

Maintaining good dental care is a great way to support good health (everyone should do it), but it may trigger anxiety to some. Not just because activities support good health, it's good for everyone's wellbeing.

Only evaluating the transformation actions based on health metrics alone will leave you unfulfilled. It's not truly responding to your specific needs/wants. Therefore most of the time the motivation fizzles out, it's unbearable and leaves you as frustrated -if not more- than when you started.

If you focus the transformation around our wellbeing, you create an emotional resonance with the activity that favors its sustainability. Accomplishing the task goes beyond the checkmark benefit as it builds stamina and momentum that keeps on nurturing positive behavior. Therefore it changes the way you look at progress and your lifestyle transformation. It leaves you wanting more not because you feel you lack something but because you feel capable/deserving of more.

Who wouldn't want their transformation to foster a genuine level up? Because it should not be only about change itself but about the possibility of unlocking your potential.

Wellbeing : 3 Part Formula

Wellbeing goes beyond enjoying life. It's as much an activity that brings you joy or physical wealth as it is the consequence or effect long-term. Wellbeing is a complex formula to construct. Why? Because it emerges from your thoughts as much as your experiences.

For example, you may feel tired after exercise, but the accomplished feeling nurtures your wellbeing. You may enjoy a night out of drinking with friends, and even with the physical repercussions of alcohol to your health, you may nurture your wellbeing to some extend.

Therefore you have to define wellbeing in your terms. You have to draw the line as you see fit. It becomes a tango dance between your comfort zone and the growth zone. Here is an idea on how to design or establish your definition of wellbeing. It's 3 part formula of sorts.

Part 1: EMOTIONAL CURRENCY - A reasonable investment of energy

A wellbeing-centered goal should be one you can endure at the request of reasonable energy effort and ultimately receive interest from your input. So you can build a foundation to grow on.

How does the goal honors or nurture my emotional currency?

Part 2: PHYSICAL CHALLENGE - A physical action that heals you

A wellbeing-centered goal should favor the body's biology & the different mechanisms and processes that come with it. Improving the conditions that give the body a fighting chance to heal.

How does the goal support the body's biology calibration?

Part 3: SPIRITUAL COMPONENT - A sense of purpose

A wellbeing-centered goal should connect with your essence & preferences and ultimately highlights your role as owner of your transformation journey.

How does the goal connect with who I am or who I want to become?

Wellbeing : 3 part formula

If you are exhausted, fatigued, or stressed aiming for exercise can be a great HEALTH GOAL, yet high energy-demanding activities may not support your wellbeing. It forces your body to do more than it can. Favoring you lacking the sustanenance to keep up with your goal, quitting your efforts and as consequence taxing your growth mindset.

If you modify your approach and tailor it considering your wellbeing first & foremost - EMOTIONAL CURRENCY, PHYSICAL CHALLENGE & SPIRITUAL COMPONENT - you may experience a better outcome. One that responds to your particular needs/circumstances and positively influencing your health long term.

Maybe your goals are good for you but missing the wellbeing context. Try rewriting your goals with the wellbeing-centered approach & its 3 part formula in mind. See what comes out of it.

If you want to start from scratch then go for it! There is no perfect way to do this, but giving up on becoming the best version of yourself is not an option.

From my journey to yours

A focus shift that unlocked a whole world

Perfection, exhaustion, and competitiveness used to drive my goals. It didn't matter if I was happy or thriving. I just had to be the best on paper no matter the cost. But no matter how high I aim & reached I was not satisfied. It was like my accomplishments were not enough. Left me burnout, sick and joyless.

When I shifted the focus of my goals, considering my wellbeing it unlocked a whole new world of possibilities. It helped me see the aspect of my life that brought more value to my life. As a result, I kept stumbling with a better version of myself. I truly level up, kept showing up stronger and fulfilled. Everything fell into place. To the point, I didn't need to change because I was on the wrong path but because my health and wellbeing are coexisting better than I could have imagined. Allowing me to reach new levels of my desired lifestyle. And isn't that the point of a transformation goal?

The best part is that transformation is accessible to everyone who considers their wellbeing in their goals. What’s your call?
